Timeline on Google Maps is a service released by Google in 2015 that allows users to visualize places they have visited and remember trips they have made. This service which was initially available for desktop and Android users is now available to iOS users as well. Google Maps Timeline records all the places you visit along a chronological timeline and provides you with a snapshot of your daily routines. Your Timeline is only visible to you. The new update has come with some major improvements. Here is a quick review of these improvements:
1- More control and customization
Maps now enable users to have more control on their Timelines. They can edit or delete locations from their Timelines, edit the date range and delete the full history at any time. Users can also choose from a wide variety of activities to customize their modes of transportation and activities.
2- Easier access to Your Timeline
‘You can now quickly access Your Timeline from the place cards of locations or businesses you’ve previously visited. So if you went to Point Reyes National Seashore a few days ago, the dates of your past visits will appear on the place card (only visible to you). From there you can tap directly into Your Timeline to get the dates and details of your visits and rediscover the experience.’
3- A monthly recap of places and activities
If you want, you can edit email settings so you can receive a monthly recap of all the places you have visited. Head over to Your Timeline and toggle 'Timeline Emails' on.
